How Borrowing Works
Learn how to borrow, place holds, renew items, and return them.
What You Can Borrow
Your library card gives you access to so much more than books:
- eBooks, audiobooks, and eMagazines
- DVDs and other media
- Museum and park passes
- Games, tech, and more through the Library of Things

Renewals

Holds
Place holds online through the Mid York app or catalog, by calling the library, or at the circulation desk. The catalog includes items from all 43 Mid York library locations, giving you access to a wide range of materials.

Not sure if something is available? Give us a call. We’re happy to check for you so you don’t make an unnecessary trip.
We’ll notify you when your hold is ready. Items are held for one week before being returned if not picked up.
Borrow from Other Libraries (Interlibrary Loan)
Looking for something you can’t find in the Mid-York catalog? We can help you get it.
- Requests are free
- You may have up to 3 active requests at a time
- Loan periods and rules are set by the lending library
- You are responsible for any late or damaged items
Checkout Limits
To help ensure fair access for everyone:
- Adult and Juvenile accounts: up to 40 items
- Temporary accounts: up to 2 items
Returns
Returning items is easy and flexible.
- You can return most items to any Mid-York library, no matter where they were borrowed
- When we’re open, please bring items inside to the circulation desk
- After hours, use the outdoor book drop
Library of Things and Passes
- Must be returned to our library
- Most Library of Things items cannot be returned in the book drop
Items returned in the book drop will be checked in when the library reopens.
Late Fees
We are fine-free.
No late fees on most overdue items, so you can return things when you’re able.
- Lost or damaged items may need to be replaced
Library of Things and Passes
- $1 per day (up to $20)
- Helps ensure these high-demand items are returned on time so everyone has a chance to use them
If an item isn’t returned after 30 days, it may be considered lost and a replacement charge may be added. If it’s returned, the charge will be removed.
